A small business can easily be compared to a basketball team. A typical small business is usually comprised of no more than 10 people. With just a few members, each teammate plays a vital role in the overall success or failure of the team. It is safe to say that one weak link can really cause problems for the rest of the employees and can mean the difference between winning and losing the game. Everyone needs to be able to work together and feel that their individual role is important.

Responsibility for team motivation usually falls on the shoulders of the coach or boss of the team. As a coach you need to be able to recognize when other teammates are struggling and give them a pep talk. Each team member needs to be strong and dedicated to their particular role on the team. You also need to be able to offer constructive criticism to your members. You don't want to discourage them only guide them in the right direction.

You need to be able to trust your employees to do their part for the business. When everyone is working together towards a common goal great things can and will happen. Make sure that you address any and all issues that may arise concerning your employees team cooperation. If other members are not getting along with them you need to seek out the problem and fix it. Sometimes that may involve firing someone for the good of the overall team.

When times get tough, you need to have a resilient motivated team to help you get through. Having teamwork present in your small business will help you to conquer challenges, grow your business, successfully meet the needs of your customers and ultimately win the game!
